Pump Applications and Uses
Our electronic ambulatory infusion devices are used in a variety of clinical applications, including:
- 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) for the treatment of colorectal cancer in adjuvant and neo-adjuvant settings
- Doxorubicin for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinomas
- Deferoxamine for the treatment of chronic iron overload
- Morphine when used in the treatment of intractable pain caused by cancer
- Hydration therapy when used in the treatment of pediatric cancer patients
In general, the primary criteria for ensuring that an infusion pump will be covered by the patient's insurance are:
- Parenteral administration of the drug in the home is reasonable and necessary.
- The drug is administered by a prolonged infusion of at least 8 hours because of proven improved clinical efficacy.
- The therapeutic regimen is proven or generally accepted to have significant advantages over intermittent bolus administration regimens, or infusion lasting less than 8 hours.
